How it all began...

Caffé e Cucina opened on August 16th 1988, with the aim of recreating the great restaurants in the most famous cities all over Italy.  Since then, it has consistently achieved high acclaim in its contribution to the definition of "cafe culture" in Australia, originally introducing the concept of Italian hospitality in Melbourne...more

Caffé e Cucina opened on August 16th 1988, with the aim of recreating the great restaurants in the most famous cities all over Italy.  Since then, it has consistently achieved high acclaim in its contribution to the definition of "cafe culture" in Australia, originally introducing the concept of Italian hospitality in Melbourne.
Small tables, dim lights and high-end service are only some of our secret. "Produzione Artigianale” means strong attention to detail and passion for our culture.
A wide selection of wines, freshly baked bread on arrival and top quality extra virgin olive oil will never be missing.
The warm welcoming atmosphere, the thick accents and the genuine flavours are perfectly blended, casting a spell that transports you straight to Italy.

If you prefer the feel of the emblematic busy Chapel Street, then sitting "al fresco" is the right choice for you.
Alternatively our upper floor is ideal to host larger groups.
Last, but not least, our exclusive Romeo and Giuletta balcony is perfect  for a romantic occasion. It is certainly a fortunate spot, considering the countless proposals that have taken place therein, and the consequent anniversaries celebrated thereafter.
Little has changed in this establishment in 28 years, yet our love for hospitality has only grown bigger.

Pol Roger 'Champagne Vintage Rosé'Brut - Pinot Noir, Chardonnay

Intense pink peppercorn colour. The nose has aromas of red fruits and summer berries. Refreshing on the palate, with notes of fragrant wild strawberry; this develops into creamy ripeness with a hint of vanilla. Complex citrus layer with notes of grapefruit on the finish. The wine boasts a linear structure and rare finesse complemented by intensity of flavour.

Flour dusted shallow fried calamari with rocket and house dressing

Livon 'Braide Alte'

Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc,
Picolit, Moscato Giallo

Intense straw yellow colour, with golden reflections. The bouquet is intense, very complex, with spicy hints. On the palate it is warm, full-bodied, very elegant and enormously complex. It will evolve in the glass with the temperature changes.

Homemade wholemeal pappardelle in white base pork and beef ragu', with saffron and eggplants.

Reds

Azienda Agricola Ferrero 'Brunello di Montalcino'
Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc

Vivid garnet colour. Really complex nose characterized by rich cherry fruit, liquorice, toasted tobacco leaves, leather, with a hint of truffle and cassis expression of the fine development.     
The palate fuses elegantly, supple textures and richness of body.   Moderate tannic, still vibrant as a result of this five stars vintage.


Chef's matching suggestion:

Cinghiale in Salmi con Polentina e Carote Viola
24-hour marinated wild boar, slow-cooked in wine and tomato served with polenta and purple carrot chips
