Caffé e Cucina opened on August 16th 1988, with the aim of recreating the great restaurants in the most famous cities all over Italy.  Since then, it has consistently achieved high acclaim in its contribution to the definition of "cafe culture" in Australia, originally introducing the concept of Italian hospitality in Melbourne.
Small tables, dim lights and high-end service are only some of our secret. "Produzione Artigianale” means strong attention to detail and passion for our culture.
A wide selection of wines, freshly baked bread on arrival and top quality extra virgin olive oil will never be missing.
The warm welcoming atmosphere, the thick accents and the genuine flavours are perfectly blended, casting a spell that transports you straight to Italy.
We have always been driven by the clear and ambitious intention to provide great traditional food, attentive yet friendly service and all around consistency.
After all these years, we still pride ourselves in continually achieving these goals and keeping "your little piece of Italy" alive... less

Caffé e Cucina delivers the ultimate Italian dining experience.
Our vision is inspired by the motto: "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts".
Enjoy your experience downstairs, with the constant coming and going of our waiters at the sound of the occasional "ciao bello/a!"
If you prefer the feel of the emblematic busy Chapel Street, then sitting "al fresco" is the right choice for you.
Alternatively our upper floor is ideal to host larger groups.
Last, but not least, our exclusive Romeo and Giuletta balcony is perfect  for a romantic occasion. It is certainly a fortunate spot, considering the countless proposals that have taken place therein, and the consequent anniversaries celebrated thereafter.
Little has changed in this establishment in 28 years, yet our love for hospitality has only grown bigger.
The only risk of visiting us is that you may not want to leave! ...less

Sommelier's suggestion of the month

Veuve A. Devaux
'Cuvée D
' Brut
Pinot Noir, Chardonnay

Strong showing of lemon and grapefruit freshness, tangy grapefruit zest definition and notes of fresh almonds.
Notes of white flowers, mint and white pepper. Depply embedded in grand cru chalk soils. It's soft, salty and frothy, creamy in texture and lingering with great length and poise. A beautifully crafted and terroir-infused cuvée.

Chef's matching suggestion:

Calamari Sant'Andrea

Great structure, complex, elegant, well balanced with a long aftertaste.
